Five rules that keep reports clean

  • Always lowercase.Analytics treats "LinkedIn" and "linkedin" as two different sources.
  • Pick one separator and stick to it.spring_launch and spring-launch split your numbers.
  • Keep medium to a short, fixed list.paid_social, cpc, email, organic_social, display, referral. Make up new sources, not new mediums.
  • Use content to compare versions.Give each ad or link its own content value so you can see which one worked.
  • Never tag internal links.Tagging links between your own pages starts a new session and overwrites where the visitor really came from.

Questions

Is this UTM builder free?

Yes, with no sign-up or account. Your recent links are kept in your own browser so you can copy them again. Nothing you type is sent to us.

Will tagged links break my page?

No. UTM parameters are added to the end of the address and ignored by the page itself. If your address already has other parameters, they're kept, and any old UTM values are replaced.

Where do I see the results?

In Google Analytics 4, under Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition. Change the table to Session source / medium or Session campaign. Most other analytics tools and CRMs, including HubSpot, read the same parameters.

Should I tag links in my own emails?

Yes. Without tags, many email clients show up as direct traffic. Use utm_medium=email and a source for the list or tool you sent from.
