Recommended or maximum?
Maximum means the platform won't accept anything longer. Recommended means it will, but the rest gets hidden behind "See more" or cut off on some screens.
Write to the recommended length and treat the maximum as the hard stop. The counter shows both.
Four habits that save a round of edits
- Make the vertical version first.A 9:16 video crops down to 4:5 and 1:1 more easily than a landscape one crops up.
- Keep text out of the safe zones. On Stories, Reels and TikTok, the profile name, caption and buttons cover the top and bottom of the frame.
- Front-load your copy.Whatever the limit, the first line does the work. Put the offer or hook before the cut-off.
- Export at the recommended size, not the minimum.Platforms compress everything. Starting bigger keeps it sharp.

Questions
How up to date are these specs?
We last checked every platform on 21 October 2026, against each platform's own help pages where we could. Platforms change specs without much notice, so check in Ads Manager or Campaign Manager before a big launch.

How does the SMS counter work?
A standard text message holds 160 characters. Longer messages are split into parts of 153 characters each. Using an emoji or certain accented characters switches the whole message to a different encoding, which drops the limit to 70 characters, or 67 per part. The counter spots this and shows how many parts you'll be charged for.
Do emoji count as one character?
Mostly, but not always. Some platforms count an emoji as two characters because of how it's stored. Leave a little room if you use them.
